Wrestling: Ex-Armenian champ becomes Bulgarian team coach

Olympic, European and world wrestling champion Armen Nazarian has accepted the offer of a job as head coach of Bulgaria’s Greco Roman wrestling team, reports PanArmenian.net, quoting the former athlete himself.

“I received the same offer a few years ago, but I refused then. It took me five years to accept the proposal. I am happy to be given such an opportunity,” Nazarian, a citizen of Bulgaria since 1997, told the news website.

Nazarian, 38, who won Armenia’s only gold medal at the 1996 summer Olympics in Atlanta, USA, is due to start coaching Bulgarian wrestlers from November 26 when the team will start preparations for next year’s European championships in Georgia.

The former renowned wrestler said a week before the championships the Armenian and Bulgarian wrestling teams could hold joint trainings.
