Chess: Aronian behind leaders at Tata Steel

Top Armenian grandmaster Levon Aronian is 10th after eight days of play at Tata Steel, a prestigious 14-man tournament taking place in Wijk aan Zee, the Netherlands.

The Armenian has 3 points and is 3 points behind the leader, reigning world champion Magnus Carlsen from Norway.

In Round 9 of the tournament scheduled for Tuesday Aronian plays against Baadur Jobava from Georgia.

Aronian won at Tata Steel in 2014. The 32-year-old grandmaster is currently sixth on the FIDE Top 100 Player list.

Young Armenian American chess player Samuel Sevian is taking part in Tata Steel’s Tournament B. After eight rounds the 14-year-old is seventh among 14 participants.
