Davtyan Cross: Gymnastics element named after Armenian athlete

The International Gymnastics Federation has included an element performed by an Armenian gymnast in the list of gymnastics elements.

According to the National Olympic Committee of Armenia, during the World Cup in Doha, Qatar, last year member of the Armenian national team Vahagn Davtyan managed to perform a variation of the Cross exercise on the still rings that had not been done before.

After the recognition by the international federation, the element was named after the Armenian sportsman and will from now on be called the Davtyan Cross.

Several gymnastics elements are called by Armenian athletes’ names: Hrant Shahinyan (on the pommel horse), Albert Azaryan (two elements on the still rings), Artur Hakobyan (vault) and Vahagn Stepanyan (on the pommel horse).
