Virtual Reality Challenge: New IT sphere competition encourages creation of applications by innovative technologies

A competition first held in Armenia in the sphere of innovation technologies aims at encouraging beginner scientists and programmers to create virtual reality programs and applications by innovative technologies.

The competition named “Virtual Reality Challenge” is initiated and funded by the Technology and Science Dynamics company.

Technology & Science Dynamics Inc. (TSD) is a Research and Development corporation located in Santa Barbara, CA, USA and Yerevan, Armenia with links to more than fifteen international research & development centers. The company was founded in 1998 and later renamed to TSD in 2013. The Armenian office of TSD was established in 2013 in a Free Economic Zone. TSD is famous for the creation of the first Armenian gadget Armtab.

Vahan Shakaryan, founding director of the company, told media that the competition aims at finding those young and promising specialists who believe IT is Armenia’s future.

“We want them to be involved in a number of programs initiated for the development of Armenia,” he said.

Technology and Science Dynamics’ founder also said that the competition is unique in terms of jury members geography.

“Outstanding representatives of IT sphere from Massachusetts, Stanford, Harvard, George Washington Universities and USCB will judge the works of the contestants,” he said, adding that later there will be great opportunities to get many contacts and funding from Silicon Valley in case Armenian scientists’ works interest the jury members.

Special attention will be paid to the development of applications concerning the practice of virtual reality in the sphere of education, healthcare, emergency situations and military affairs.

The funding of the competitions (held from December 18, 2015 to September 19, 2016) is 8 million AMD (about $16,000).
