Azerbaijan lost at least 14 soldiers dead and more than 20 wounded in fighting in Nagorno-Karabakh during the week, the military authorities in Stepanakert said over the weekend.

According to Nagorno-Karabakh’s Ministry of Defense, in the period of January 17-24 Azerbaijan 1,800 times violated the ceasefire regime at the Line of Contact, firing more than 20,000 shots from firearms of different calibers.

Besides, according to the report, at different sections of the Line of Contact special detachments of the Azerbaijan armed forces made more than two dozen attempts of “sabotage infiltration” into Nagorno-Karabakh territory.

“Meeting fierce resistance of the Nagorno-Karabakh armed forces, the enemy had to withdraw, suffering casualties,” the Defense Ministry said, adding that official Baku tries to hide Azeri casualties in the fighting.

According to the data of the NKR Defense Army, as a result of preventive measures taken by the Nagorno-Karabakh armed forces the Azerbaijani side lost at least 14 soldiers dead and more than 20 wounded, also one Azeri vehicle and one army truck were destroyed.

Meanwhile, the Armenian Defense Ministry on Saturday reported another attempted raid by Azerbaijani forces against Armenian army posts in the Berd area of the northeastern province of Tavush. It said Armenian troops rebuffed the enemy, destroying its unit nearly completely, while suffering no casualties themselves.

On Friday, Armenia said two of its servicemen were killed and another serviceman was wounded during Azeri attacks against a number of military posts in the Berd area.

According to official data, a total of 10 Armenian servicemen and one civilian have been killed in clashes in Nagorno-Karabakh and at the Armenian-Azerbaijani border since the beginning of the year.
