Karabakh: Five killed as Armenian volunteers’ bus comes under Azeri fire

Five volunteer fighters from Sisian, Armenia, were killed as a bus transporting them came under Azeri fire on the way to Martakert, a spokesman for Armenia’s defense minister said late on Monday.

Artsrun Hovhannisyan told media that among the killed were also village mayors.

Hundreds of volunteers – including many veterans of the 1991-1994 Karabakh war – have been enlisting for military service these days to help regular troops fight off Azerbaijan’s aggression at the frontlines.

Earlier, military authorities in Nagorno-Karabakh reported about 20 Armenian servicemen killed in action and 72 others wounded since the start of hostilities on April 2. Another 26 Armenian servicemen are missing in action.

The Armenian side estimates Azerbaijan’s casualties at about 300, but so far Baku has admitted only 15 killed troops.
