Minister: Russia insists on raising natural gas price for Armenia

Russia’s state-run gas monopoly Gazprom insists on raising the price of natural gas supplied to Armenia in 2013, according to Armenian Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Armen Movsisyan.

The official told media in Yerevan on Thursday that negotiations regarding a new price of natural gas for Armenia were in progress and that it will be announced later in December. He did not elaborate.

Armenia currently imports natural gas at a price of $180 per 1,000 cubic meters, while Russia supplies this fuel to Europe and Ukraine at a price of above $400. Moldova and Belarus pay $387 and $165, respectively. Gazprom has already signed a deal with the Belarus government to raise the price to $185 in 2013.
