April 7: Armenians mark Motherhood & Beauty Day

April 7 is marked in Armenia as Motherhood and Beauty Day. From 1996 to 2011 it was a non-working holiday, but became a working day after the National Assembly decided to restore March 8 as Women’s Day. Since then the period from March 8 to April 7 is traditionally observed in Armenia as an informal “Women’s Month”.

By tradition President Serzh Sargsyan today made an address to all women of the country, congratulating them on the holiday.

“Dear mothers, I cordially congratulate you on Motherhood and Beauty Day,” the head of state said in his message, disseminated by his press office.

“During all times and almost in all societies there has been an attitude towards motherhood bordering on cult. The Armenian reality and traditions are also a bright expression of that and this holiday is our entire society’s confession of love and gratitude towards mothers,” said the president. “Dear ladies, I again congratulate you on this beautiful spring holiday and wish you to be always loved and happy, wish you to raise healthy and worthy children.”
