Six people were found dead at a house in Armenia’s second largest city of Gyumri in the morning, the Armenian police said today.

All members of the family, including a two-year-old child, were killed with the use of firearms in what seemed to be a shooting rampage. Another child said to be six months of age is now in hospital.

RFE/RL’s Armenian Service quotes the Investigation Committee as confirming that the suspect is Valeri Permyakov, a serviceman of the Russian military base stationed in Gyumri.

The man is now on the run. Measures are reportedly being taken to establish the whereabouts of the suspect and arrest him.

Investigators found an AK-74 rifle, 5.45mm cartridges, a magazine with bullets as well as military boots on the crime scene.

Nothing is yet reported about the possible motives of the murders.
