Survey: Putin most popular world leader in Armenia

Russian President Vladimir Putin has the highest approval rating in Armenia among world leaders, the latest research carried out by WIN/Gallup International shows.

The results of the survey suggest that 79 percent of respondents in Armenia view Putin favorably.

This reflects the general trend among former Soviet countries that mostly rank the Russian leader higher than other world leaders.

According to the survey results, 43 percent of respondents in Armenia have an unfavorable attitude towards U.S. President Barack Obama, who enjoys the first place in the global popularity ranking with a 59-percent approval rating (only 29 percent globally view the outgoing American leader unfavorably).

French President Francois Hollande has a 51-percent approval rating among Armenians and German Chancellor Angela Merkel is favored by 15 percent.
