Sad News: Deserved artist, filmmaker Arman Manaryan dies

Deserved artist of the Armenian SSR, filmmaker Arman Manaryan died on February 16 at the age of 86, Armenia’s Ministry of Culture confirmed.

Manaryan was born in Tehran in 1929 and repatriated to Armenia in 1946. He studied at the Yerevan music school after Romanos Melikyan and then at the Yerevan State Conservatory. After that he continued his study at the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography (VGIK).

Involved in work as a film director at Armenfilm since 1962, Manaryan shot a number of films that became popular with the audience, including “Tzhvzhik”, “Karine” and others.

He was also producing director and scriptwriter for the full-length animated film, “Sasna Tsrer” that premiered in 2010.
