Minister of Foreign Affairs Edward Nalbandian on Wednesday re-affirmed information concerning the Brazilian Senate’s official recognition of the Armenian Genocide.

“With the adoption of this resolution Brazil made a significant step in support of the international community’s efforts in the prevention of acts of genocide and new crimes against humanity,” the minister told reporters.

On May 29 Nalbandian had announced Brazil’s resolution, however the information was refuted in Yerevan and not confirmed in Brazil.

But on Wednesday, the confirmation appeared on the Brazil Senate official website.

Nalbandian appeared at Wednesday’s press conference along with Ivitsa Dacic, deputy Prime Minister of Serbia and functioning president of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). Dacic was in Yerevan as part of a tour of the region and repeated the OSCE position that the organization “is interested in preserving stability in this region and to enhance measures of confidence building especially between the actors of the region”.
