Students from Armenia have earned one gold, one silver and two bronze medals at a prestigious international Olympiad in astronomy that ended in South Korea this week.

The Olympiad held among 14-18-year-olds representing about three dozen countries was held in the city of Gwangju on October 16-24.

Armenia was represented by six students at the competitions.

According to Olymp.am, the gold medal winner Gevorg Martirosyan and two bronze medalists Vardges Mambreyan and Siranush Babakhanova represent Yerevan’s Physics-Mathematics School. The silver medalist, Arsen Aslanyan, is from the State Engineering University of Armenia-affiliated high school.

“Our students have put up a brilliant performance… A wonderful result!” wrote Armenian Education Minister Armen Ashotyan on his Facebook account sharing the good news from South Korea on Wednesday.

“I congratulate everyone and thank our children for upholding the name of Armenia high,” the minister added.
