‘Cleaner Yerevan’: Municipality’s initiative starts in Hrazdan Gorge

The first day of community work as part of the Cleaner Yerevan program took place on Saturday in the Armenian capital’s Hrazdan Gorge.

According to the Yerevan Municipality, 26 garbage trucks and street sprinklers were used in the activities.

The initiative is being conducted by the Communal Economy Department of the Yerevan Municipality upon the instruction of Mayor Taron Margaryan. The Youth Commission of the Mayor-affiliated City Planning Council also participates in the organizational work.

More than 400 volunteers, including university students and members of various NGOs, helped employees of communal and greenery planting organizations of the city’s Kentron, Arabkir, Ajapniak and Davidashen administrative districts in their efforts.

Head of the Communal Economy Department of the Yerevan Municipality Karlen Ghazaryan said that the program will help clean up green areas that are favorite rest spots for Yerevan residents and are, therefore, heavily littered.

The next ‘clean-up’ day as part of the initiative will be on June 29 when similar activities are planned in the capital’s Victory Park.
