Armenian grandmaster Levon Aronian retained his joint leadership at a major international tournament in the Netherlands after a draw against Dutch player Loek Van Wely on Thursday.

Aronian’s top Norwegian rival Magnus Carlsen, to whom he had lost during the ongoing Tata Steel tournament earlier this week, like the Armenian, has 3 ½ points after five games.

In Friday’s Round 6 of the 14-man tournament in Wijk aan Zee Aronian was scheduled to play Azerbaijan’s Vugar Gashimov, while Carlsen’s rival was David Navara from the Czech Republic.

Armenian female grandmaster Elina Danielian, who is playing in Group C of the tournament, has only one point after five games, sharing the bottom place of the 14-member standings with two other participants.
