Chess: Aronian building up lead at Tata Steel

Armenian grandmaster Levon Aronian has widened his lead at the Tata Steel tournament in the Netherlands after scoring yet another victory on Wednesday.

Aronian scored his latest win – his six in 10 games in Wijk aan Zee – against Dutch grandmaster Anish Giri. Norwegian Magnus Carlsen, Aronian’s main rival, tied with Hikaru Nakamura from the United States.

With 7 ½ points Aronian continues to leads the 14-man Group A standings, with Carlsen falling behind with 6 points.

Three rounds remain before the end of the tournament. In Round 11 scheduled for Friday Aronian plays David Navara representing the Czech Republic.
