Soccer: Armenia to seek victories as World Cup qualifyng matches resume

Armenia sets itself the task of winning in every match, said the national soccer team’s head coach Vardan Minasyan at a press conference on Thursday.

The Havakakan tonight hosts Malta in Yerevan before traveling to Denmark for another 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier scheduled for Tuesday.

Armenia resumed the campaign in March by losing to the visiting Czech side in Yerevan 0-3, which led to criticism of the team and its managers and opinions that it stood no chances for qualifying from the group that also includes Italy and Bulgaria.

Ahead of the game against Malta, a rival that Armenia already beat in an away match last year, Minasyan said that the team should play well regardless of the strength of the competitor.

“Let no one think that beating Malta is easy,” he said.

Armenia v Malta is at the Vazgen Sargsyan Republican Stadium Friday night, kickoff at 8 pm.
