Soccer: Makhachkala club makes €35-million offer to Mkhitaryan

Armenia and Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan has got a lucrative offer from FC Anzhi Makhachkala, reports the Russian Izvestia newspaper.

It says the midfielder was offered a transfer to the club at a private meeting in Yerevan soon after the latest two World Cup qualifiers played by Armenia in early June.

According to a verbal agreement reached between Anzhi and Shakhtar, the Makhachkala club coached by Dutch tactician Guus Hiddink is willing to offer €35 million (nearly $46 million) for Mkhitaryan should a transfer deal be closed.

Izvestia says Mkhitaryan did not give a direct answer following the Russian club’s offer.

Earlier, Shakhtar general manager Sergey Palkin has confirmed that Borussia Dortmund offered €30 million (some $39 million) for the 24-year-old player.

Until recently English Premier League side Liverpool FC was believed to be the most likely buyer of Mkhitaryan.
