They are: leader of the Republican Party of Armenia, incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan, leader of the opposition Heritage Party Raffi Hovannisian, head of the Liberty Party, member of the Armenian National Congress’s parliamentary faction, ex-Prime Minister Hrant Bagratyan, former Karabakh Foreign Minister Arman Melikyan, Radio Hay director Andrias Ghukasyan, National Self-Determination Union chairman Paruyr Hayrikyan, specialist in epic studies Vardan Sedrakyan and National Accord Party leader Aram Harutyunyan.

Originally, as many as 15 candidates had submitted documents for registration, but seven eventually could not pay the required electoral deposit of 8 million drams (nearly $20,000) and were automatically denied registration.

The registered candidates can withdraw from the race until February 8 (6 pm) and still collect their deposits back.

The election campaign proper will kick off on January 21 and will go on through February 16, with “a day of silence” imposed on the day preceding the polls.
